: After a 11 day gap, stocks of fresh turmeric started arriving in the market here today and fetched a good price, a top office bearer of Erode Turmeric Mercants Association said here today
Association President R K V Ravishankar said the crop started arriving after 11 day Pongal holidays. Turmeric from Gundelpet in Karnataka fetched good price of Rs 6300 a quintal, while the Number 8 variety from this district was sold at Rs 4900 a quintal. The price of the two varieties are very encouraging and higher than last year, he said.
However the price of the old crop decreased due to arrival of medium variety. Traders also quoted lower price due to poor demand from North India. Traders expect demand to be good in the first week of February as the winter is now very severe in North India.
