Newly-wed couple among four killed in road accident

Four persons of a marriage party, including the newly-wed couple, were today killed and five others injured when their SUV overturned in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district, police said.

The SUV that was carrying nine persons, was coming from Salka village under Udaypur police station limits this morning after the marriage ceremony when the incident took place near Riki village, located around 45 kms away from Ambikapur district headquarters, station house officer (SHO) of Udaypurpolice station, S Sarathi, said.

The victims were heading to their native place Ratanpur village under Jainagar police station area.

"As per the preliminary information, the driver lost control over the speeding vehicle, following which it overturned leaving the SUV driver- Amarnath (24) and brother-law-law of the groom Durga Prasad (25) dead on the spot, the SHO said.
 

The bride Rita (20) and groom Veerbahadur (22) succumbed to injuries at a local hospital later, he said.

All the six injured, including a child, were admitted to Ambikapur district hospital, the SHO said.
