NHRC issues notices to Sambalpur district authorities

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to Sambalpur district authorities in Odisha on media reports that two girls were raped and as many others molested in a local orphanage.

Sambalpur District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police have been sent notices by the apex human rights body asking them to reply within four weeks, NHRC officials said.

The accused, owner of the orphanage, has been arrested.

The alleged sexual exploitation according to the media report was taking place since last one month.

The commission said if the media reports are found to be true, then it is a gross case of human rights violation.
 

Meanwhile, the administration has shut down the orphanage and shifted the inmates to another place.
