Press Trust of India Mumbai
Benchmark Nifty ended on a flat note in a volatile trade, up marginally by six points as positive trend continued for sixth consecutive session following value buying mainly in IT, energy and media sectors.

While, profit-booking in infra, PSU banks and financial services capped gains.

Investors focussed on global cues and the movement of crude oil prices due to lack of domestic cues.

Ongoing reforms and likely slower than expected Fed rate hike also caused positive momentum in the market.

Overseas, Asian stocks were mostly subdued in trade, with the China's Shanghai Composite losing 2.26 per cent following new liquidity rules in the country.

European markets were trading mixed.

The NSE Nifty opened higher at 10,358.45 and moved in a range of 10,374.30 and 10,307.30 before ending at 10,348.75, marginally up by 6.45 points, or 0.06 per cent.

It saw an intra-day movement of 67 points.

The broader markets outperformed continued their winning momentum as the Nifty Small Cap index and the Midcap index rose by 0.29 per cent and 0.85 per cent, respectively.

Sector-wise, IT rose by 1.02 per cent, energy 0.83 per cent, media 0.26 per cent and pharma 0.16 per cent.

However, infra fell by 0.38 per cent, PSU bank 0.36 per cent, financial service 0.32 per cent, metal 0.26 per cent, auto 0.24 per cent and bank 0.12 per cent.

The breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was in favour of gainers. On NSE, 924 shares advanced and 805 shares declined, a total of 69 shares were unchanged.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 167.

Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 29,651.46 crore from Rs 29,866.40 crore yesterday.
