Nigerians remanded to police custody in cheating case

A here today remanded six Nigerians and an Indian woman to six days' police custody in a case wherein a woman was duped Rs 21 lakh.

The accused were brought from and produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class L Kharshiing.

The judge sent them to six days' police custody as sought by the investigation officer.

The seven persons were arrested in on September 12.

The accused had befriended the victim on and then claimed to have come to to meet the woman, but they were detained at the airport by customs for carrying huge amount of and expensive gifts for the woman. The woman was then made to pay to the custom officials.

To help her friend, the victim had sent Rs 21 lakh in instalments through transfers. However, she later realised that she had been cheated and lodged a complaint with the police.
