A total of nine candidates, including Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, were left in the fray for the November 19 by-elections to Nellithope segment here, after scrutiny of nomination papers today.
Nominations of nine candidates were found in order, while those of two were rejected during scrutiny, Returning Officer (RO) G Malarkannan told PTI.
The nominations of one Tamil Sengolan and an Independent candidate S Venkatesan were rejected.

Nomination papers of Tamil Sengolan, a substitute for the AIADMK's main candidate were rejected following acceptance of the main candidate's nomination, the official said.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 5.
The by-poll was necessitated after Congress' A John Kumar quit the post of MLA on September 15 to enable Narayanasamy, a non-member of the House, seek election.
