The National Institute of Technology-Warangal has expelled five students and suspended two others for two years as part of a disciplinary action against them in connection with a clash between two groups reported near the Institute recently.

The disciplinary action was initiated by the administration yesterday against the students following a violent clash between two groups of students that occurred during an annual fest near the Institute's stadium on March 11, college authorities said.

A B-Tech final year student was injured after he was stabbed in the "ghastly incident."

Action was taken against seven students (all Msc students) under relevant sections of PG (Science and Management) Rules and Regulations of the Institute after their "involvement was proved" following an enquiry conducted by an Enquiry Committee and also based on the findings of the Deans' Committee, they said.

"The competent authority of the Institute, after going through the Report of the Enquiry Committee as well as the findings of the Deans Committee, is fully convinced and agrees to conclude on the involvement of seven students of the Institute in the ghastly incident that took place on March 11,"an order issued from the Registrar NIT, Warangal said.

Two other students were suspended from the Institute for two years with immediate effect, it said.

"Apart from the expulsions and suspensions, the institute campus including Academic, Administrative and Hostel areas are declared out of bounds for these students," the Registrar said in the orders.

The punishment (expulsion and suspension)was in addition to the criminal proceedings initiated against them, the order added.
