A no confidence motion against the chairperson of Vyas Nagar municipality in Jajpur district of Odisha was rejected today in the absence of required number of Councillors.
The no trust motion against the BJD civic chief Sabita Rout was brought by the Congress.
"According to the rule, a 2/3 majority of the 26-member civic body was required for voting. Only nine members of the Congress turned up, while the rest of the councillors of BJD and a lone independent councilor abstained from voting. So, the motion was rejected," said Abdul Alim Khan, additional District Magistrate of Kalinga Nagar.

The Congress had moved the no-confidence motion with the support of seven disgruntled BJD members against the chairperson last month.
BJD had yesterday issued a whip asking all its councillors to abstain from voting to ensure victory of the party. It also warned of action against the whip violators.
"The BJD Councillors who had promised to cooperate with us, abstained from voting today. As a result, the motion was rejected due to absence of the required number of Councillors', said Bandita Parida, Congress councillor.
Congress is always with the people and working for the development of the town, she added.
