: Samba crops in over one lakh hectares in the district do not face water scarcity and are in good condition, District Collector T P Rajesh, said today.
Speaking to reporters here, he said farmers had raised the samba crop in over one lakh acres in Chidambaram and Kattumannarkovil Taluks in the District, which falls in the r Delta Region.
These crops were in good condition and would not fail for want of water, he said

The collector said water released from Mettur dam had reached Veeranam reservoir, where about 1 tmc required for the crop had been stored and was being released.
He said steps had been taken to face the north east monsoon. All canals and 285 Tanks had been desilted. 900 Staff members and villagers would avert damage due to rain and flood. Over one crore gunny sand bags had been stocked to avoid breaches in canals.
