Filing of nomination papers for the November 22 elections to 46 civic bodies, including six municipal corporations began today, an official said here.

The process of filing of nomination papers began with an official notification and will go on till November 22, a PRO of State Election Commission said.

Since the nomination began for 1,696 wards, the candidates who filed their papers would be counted later tonight, he said.

Scrutiny of the papers will take place on November 12 and withdrawal of nominations will be allowed till November 14. EVMs will be used in the polls and results will be announced on November 25.

Polling will be held in six municipal corporations of Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur and Bharatpur, 18 municipal councils and 22 municipalities, the official said.

Over 63.09 lakh electors are expected to cast their votes at 6,135 polling booths in 1,696 wards on November 22 from 7 am to 6 pm. The model code of conduct comes into effect forthwith.

Ruling BJP and the major opposition Congress have not declared any list of their candidates so far.

At a workers meet, the state BJP chief Ashok Parnami said that the list of candidates going to contest the polls would be announced in a few days though it was given a final review.

Congress was also working on finalising the lists, a party spokesperson said.
