The Jammu and Kashmir government has not granted mining lease for lignite deposits in Kupwara district of the state.
Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, replying on behalf of the Industries Minister to a question by Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah in Legislative Council, said that no mining lease for lignite deposits of Nichama Rajwar of Kupwara district have been granted as yet.
The minister said that the matter with regard to diversion of land from forestry to non-forestry has been taken up with the Forest Department.
