Not in public interest to disclose uranium produce: Govt

Government today cited "public interest" for not divulging details of the quantity of uranium produced annually in the country.

In response to a question on average annual production from uranium mines and its quality, Minister of State for Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh informed the Lok Sabha that, "It is not in the public interest to disclose the quantity of production of uranium."

He said that the Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) is currently operating mines in Jaduguda, Bhatin, Narwapahar, Turamdih, Bagjata, Bandhuhurang and Mohuldih, all in Jharkhand.

Commercial production of new mines are in process at Tummalapalle in Kadappa district and at Lambarpur in Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh, Gogi in Gulbarga district of Karnataka and Kylleng Pyndengsohiong Mawathabah in West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.
