In 2010, Fayaz Ahmad Rasool Sheikh (41), a native of Mumbai was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau there for smuggling ephedrine, a narcotic drug, a city crime branch statement said.
In February this year, he managed to escape from custody while he was admitted to a civil hospital for treatment of an illness in Bharuch, Gujarat.
He was handed over to the Bharuch police by the CCB after his arrest yesterday.
In another case, a CCB team arrested a seven-member gang of dacoits while they were allegedly hatching a plan to commit dacoity.
