Odisha to launch 'Biju Gaon Radio' for the rural populace

After success of the 'Biju Gaon Gaddi' programme, Odisha government has decided to launch 'Biju Gaon Radio', a community radio programme, through which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will address villagers every month.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister yesterday.

Patnaik will speak to farmers and rural people for 10 minutes though "Apananka Pain" (For You) in Odia language.

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Vice-Chancellor Surendranath Pasupalak said the community radio programme would start through 32 'Krishi Vigyan Kendras' spread across the state.

The state government would fund for setting up of community radio centres in different KVKs, Pasupalak said.
 

The proposed programme will disseminate information to the farmers especially on agriculture, cooperative, irrigation, health, education, disaster management and culture.

Pasupalak said the farmers will be benefited in a big was due to real time information dissemination in local languages.

The Community Radio programme will be broadcast from 6 PM to 7 PM on daily basis and repeated at 8 PM and 9 PM.

The information will be provided mainly to the farmers, self-help groups and farmer unions through the programme, which will focus on women, youths, tribal and school students in the rural areas.
