The Odisha government today placed an executive engineer rank officer under suspension on charge of dereliction of duty while executing infrastructural work for Lord Jagannath's Nabakalebara festival.

"Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has suspended Saroj Das, project engineer of Odisha Water, Sanitation and Sewerage Board, for dereliction of duty," a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said today.

Das, the executive engineer, Public Health, was sent on deputation by the state government as the project engineer to oversee water, sanitation and sewerage work in Puri ahead of the grand religious festival next month.

As the infrastructure development was not satisfactory, the government decided to initiate action against the engineer and gave a message to other officers that delay in execution of works would not be tolerated, an official said.
