Timely intervention of officials prevented marriage of a minor girl with a youth in Rajmohalla area of the city today.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and officials reached a dharmashala (rest house for travellers) in the area and prevented parents of the 16-year-old from marrying her off to the youth who hails from neighbouring Dewas district, Women and Child Development Department's Project Officer, Chitra Yadav told PTI.
The officials warned parents of the girl that marrying her off at the age of 16 is illegal.
After much persuasion, they agreed to delay the marriage, following which officials took an affidavit from them on the issue.
