A theft accused, who had been absconding for more than two decades, was finally nabbed today by the Jaipur Police from Agra where he had settled down with his second wife.

Noor Mohammed, who had renamed himself Gaffar Mohammed, was arrested from Jawharpuram Colony in Shahjaganj in Agra by a special team of Jaipur-North Police, DCP (Jaipur-North Police) A K Gupta said.

He had been absconding for 23 years.

The accused was declared an absconder by a local court in 1991. Businessman Rajendra Pareek had lodged a case against him for allegedly fleeing with a loaded truck from his factory in 1989, Gupta said.

He said Noor was searched on many occasions, but recently someone informed the police that he had been living in Agra.

The arrest was made as part of a drive launched by the police to nab absconding criminals, he said.

In a similar case, Harpaloo Kubari, wanted in a an eight-year-old loot case, has also been arrested from Churu, the DCP said.

He had gone missing from a court. The court had issued a permanent arrest warrant against Harpaloo.
