A 25-year-old man was arrested today in connection with the rape of 14-year-old minor girl in Garapur locality on the outskirts of Kendrapara Township in Odisha, the police said.
The accused Shankar Mallik had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim girl recently. The girl was medically examined and the report detected signs of sexual assault. The accused has confessed to the crime, they said.
The offence was committed a couple of days back while the victim's parents lodged a complaint with the police yesterday.
Mallik was booked under Indian Penal Code sections - 376 (Rape), section-557 (Assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), section-342 (wrongful confinement), section-506 (criminal intimidation) and sections-4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
He was later sent to jail after a local court rejected his bail application.
