One held for attempting to smuggle ganja into prison

A 20 year-old man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle 80 gm of ganja and a mobile phone into the district prison here yesterday, police sources said.

The prison security personnel caught the man after noticing his suspicious movements.After a thorough check, they found the ganja inside the hollow space in the sole of his footwear.

A mobile phone without SIM card was found inside his pant pocket.He was later handed over to Barke police station.

The arrested man has been identified as Javed, a resident of Chokkabettu at Surathkal near here.

He came to the prison to meet a jail inmate named Riyaz, the sources said.
 

Javed, who was produced before a local court, was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks.
