One jail escapee caught, arrested

One the three convicts who had escaped Alipore Correctional Home in Kolkata was caught by the police here in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district in the early hours today.
District superintendent of Police Pravin Tripathy said Azim Mistry, who was serving a life term and was lodged in the jail, was caught by police in plain clothes when he was walking back home at around 1 am.
The man was crossing over the railway track at Khodarbazar here near his home when he was caught.

He was arrested and kept in police lock up, Triparthy said, adding, he would be handed over to Kolkata Police later in the day.
Mistry along with two other convicts -- Qutubuddin Laskar and Shamim Haldar -- had escaped from Cell No 8 at Alipore Correctional Home at around 3:30 am yesterday by cutting the rods and scaling wall post No 7 by using water pipe and 'lungi'.
The jail superintendent and two guards were suspended after the escape. An inquiry was also initiated, state Jail Minister Haider Aziz Aafwi had said yesterday.
