One killed, 29 injured in jallikattu

A spectator was killed and 29 others were injured today in a 'jallikattu' (taming of the bull sport) held at Kandupatti in the district as part of the annual Pongal festivities.

Velliyan of Orudhikottai was gored by a bull and died while being rushed to the hospital, police said.

Among the injured, most of them spectators, twentyfour were treated as out patients at the local hospital and five persons had been admitted to hospitals here and Madurai.

A total of 41 bulls and 24 bull tamers took part in the jallikattu.
