One killed by NAP havildar

Police (Indian Reserve) Battalion have been taken under custody for allegedly firing on an vehicle leading to killing of one person and injuring another in Dimapur district, police said.

Police said that one person identified as Dipanker Dey, a resident of Kuda Village, Dimapur, succumbed to bullet injuries at District Hospital Dimapur after he was shot at by a personnel of 13 NAP (IR) performing patrolling duty at Rail Bazaar late last night.

Police said that the commander of a Section of 13 NAP (IR) on foot patrolling duty on Rail Bazaar area tried to halt one unregistered Autorickshaw approaching their direction.
 

However, before the autorickshaw came to a complete halt, the commander opened fire with his service weapon, police said.

As a result, the driver of the autorickshaw received bullet injury on the right shoulder.

One among the three passengers, identified as Dipanker Dey received bullet injury on the chest and suspected splinter injuries in the shoulder and neck.

Both injured persons were immediately rushed to the District Hospital, Dimapur but Dey succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The erring personnel identified as Havildar Samzai Zeliang of 13 NAP(IR) has been arrested and his service weapon seized.

A case has been registered and necessary investigations initiated.
