One person was killed and five others were injured after they were hit by a branch of a tree when they were travelling on the roof of a bus in Jhargram district today, police said.
The incident happened at Gangabandh under the jurisdiction of Beriabera police station, a police officer said.
The bus was travelling to Beriabera from Jhargram. It was crowded and many passengers were sitting on the roof, the officer said.
While Srikanta Dehori (42), a resident of Daria village died on the spot, five others were seriously injured, the officer said.
The injured were taken to Jhargram hospital, he said.
Most of the passengers in the bus were returning to Beriabera from Jhargram after attending West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's public meeting in Jhargram, the police officer said.
