One killed in blast at scrap shop

A scrap metal dealer was killed when a mortar shell he was apparently hammering exploded at his shop in Meerut district, police said today.

Three persons were injured in the incident, they said.

"The incident happened when Sonu (22) was segregating the metal pieces from other scrap. He apparently started hammering the shell, which triggered the blast," SP Om Prakash said.

"Three persons in the shop adjacent to the scrap shop were injured and admitted to a hospital," he said.
