A mentally ill person was found dead at his sister's residence with 100 per cent burn injuries in the Kasba area of the metropolis.
According to the police, Dilip Kayal (40) from Mathurapur, South 24 Parganas, used to visit his sister's house occasionally at Kasba and was under treatment of mental illness.
At about 11.20 AM today local residents saw smoke billowing out of a room which was locked from inside. After entering the room, it was found that Dilip had already suffered severe per cent burn injuries and had no sign of life.
A gas cylinder was lying beside him. A fire tender was also pressed into operation, the police said adding, Kayal had earlier made suicidal attempts and an investigation into the case has been initiated.
