Onion auction resumes in Nashik

Press Trust of India Nashik
Auction of onions at all 15 agriculture produce marketing committees in Nashik district, halted for last 17 days over packaging issue, resumed today.

The auctions were suspended after farmers refused to bring onions packed in gunny bags as demanded by traders.

Chairman of Lasalgaon APMC, the largest in Asia, Jaidutt Holkar said that farmers had requested APMC to accept loose onions for auction.

Onion growers today staged a rasta roko agitation on Mumbai-Agra national highway at Umrane village.

Farmers are opposing bringing their onions for sale in gunny bags as they will have to incur more expenses towards packaging.
