Open universities can become a strong alternative to provide education in rural areas where many meritorious students find it hard to progress due to lack of opportunities, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh said.
"Many talented and meritorious (students) could not progress due to lack of opportunities and open universities can be a strong option.
"To provide education to underprivileged and bringing them to the mainstream of the society is no less than doing a holy work," he said.

The Governor in his address to the students called upon them to educate people so that the society could prosper.
The Governor mentioned that 72 academic sessions are being run in the university and also stressed that the present education system should be value based.
Higher Education minister Kalicharan Saraf, VC of the university Ashok Sharma and others were present in the function.
