The opposition today dubbed the 2015-16 Budget for Assam as "poll-oriented" and said it is a "routine one" with no plan to generate resources.

"It is a totally poll-oriented budget. It just makes announcements for schemes. But, there is no effort for resource generation," All India United Democratic Front legislature party leader Hafiz Bashir Ahmed said.

The budget speech by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has openly accepted the fact that the state government can't undertake any development related activities without central funding, he added.

Asom Gana Parishad legislature party leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury termed the budget as a "routine one."

"There is nothing new or special in the budget. It is a poll-oriented budget. There is nothing for the common masses," he said.

The BJP also criticised the budget for the next fiscal presented by Gogoi in the Assembly today.

"The budget has been prepared keeping in mind the 2016 Assembly polls. It is intended to help the Congress cross the electoral barrier. This is Gogoi government's last full budget and it has been prepared with a view to preserve its vote bank," BJP legislature party leader Jadav Chandra Deka said.

Bodoland People's Front legislature party leader Pramila Rani Brahma expressed doubts over the state government's ability to fulfill all budget promises.
