Opposition parties today lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his remarks on Narendra Modi and corruption, saying his policies have been "disastrous" and his arguments supporting them have failed to convince the people.
While BJP and Shiv Sena lambasted him for his sharp attack on Modi, JD(U) and CPI(M) attacked him on corruption and for pursuing policies which have been "disastrous" for the people.
The Prime Minister had said it would be "disastrous" for the country if Modi became the prime minister.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said, "The use of such language against Modi does not add to the dignity of Prime Minister's office. The dirty tricks department of Congress has carried out certain tricks against Modi. If the dirty tricks department used such language, it was understandable. I am sure the Prime Minister of India is not a party of that dirty tricks department."
Condemning Singh's remarks against the Gujarat Chief Minister, BJP President Rajnath Singh said, "It is very unfortunate that the Prime Minister is saying this even when the SIT and court have given him a clean chit."
The BJP chief said the Prime Minister had also admitted that "dual power centre" existed in the UPA government.
CPI(M) attacked Singh for "shielding" some of those found guilty of corruption and said the policies pursued by UPA-II government have been "disastrous" for the country.
"Most of the corruption scams have emerged in the UPA-II regime and that is something they have to own up (and accept) that this is what has happened," senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said, adding that the government should act against those found guilty in the scams "instead of shielding some of them as it is happening in the Adarsh case".
