The Congress today attributed its defeat securing third spot in the Howrah Lok Sabha by-election to organisational weakness and said it would be investigated.
"We will investigate the party's poor performance, but initially it can be attributed to our organisational weakness," WBPCC president Pradip Bhattacharya told PTI here.
BJP opting out of the contest had a direct bearing on the result, he said.

"Trinamool Congress with BJP's support has won, otherwise the result would have been different," Bhattacharya said.
He said that the WBPCC would shortly meet to discuss the poll debacle and send a two-member team to the constituency to investigate.
The Congress had contested the seat last time in alliance with estranged partner, Trinamool Congress.
