A total of 1,05,443 newspapers and periodicals are registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) as on March 31, the government today said.
In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that in 2014-15, the number of titles accepted is 13,374 while 6,114 were rejected.
Replying to another question, Rathore said that Prasar Bharati has informed that due to recent flood in Jammu and Kashmir, Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar became non functional and alternative arrangements were made for telecast of 'Kashmir' programmes on Doordarshan News from Delhi from September 10, 2014 to October 15, 2014.
Further in his reply he said that Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar is functioning properly with a Head of Office and Head of Programme in position.
