Over 23,000 monkeys sterilised in Shimla

Over 23,000 monkeys have been sterilised in the capital town here by Municipal Corporation, Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmauri told Himachal Pradesh Assembly today.

Replying to a question of Maheshwar Singh (HLP), he said that the government is aware of monkey and stray dogs menace in the town and a sterilization centre was opened in Tuti Kandi in the town in February 2007 and 23,656 monkeys have been sterilised at this centre till July 20, 2014.

He said that in order to accelerate the process of sterilisation, the Divisional Forest Officer, Shimla Municipal Corporation has been asked to catch more monkeys and constitute a special team for this purpose.
 

Bharmauri said that people have been informed through workshops against feeding monkeys and steps are also being taken to check stray dog menace.
