Navy's long-range surveillance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft P-8I has made its maiden landing at a naval air base in the Andaman and Nicobar Island.

The P8-I piloted by its squadron commander made its first landing at the INS Utkrosh airfield yesterday, a Navy release said.

The event was attended by Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command Air Marshal P K Roy besides senior officers of the unified command.

This is the first of the eight aircraft ordered by India from the US in 2009 under a USD 2.1 billion deal. The aircraft is based at INS Rajali, Arakkonam.

The aircraft is equipped with both foreign as well as indigenous sensors for maritime reconnaissance, anti-submarine operations and electronic intelligence missions.

It is fully integrated with state of the art sensors and highly potent anti-surface and anti-submarine weapons.
