P'pines says it broke India's record for organ donor pledge

The Philippines today claimed to have broken India's record of gathering the most number of organ donor pledges in an hour at a single site.

Health Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa said the final count for the first hour of sign up at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines campus in Manila was 3,548, breaking the old record held by India with 2,775 in 2013 in Gujarat.

The feat awaits the Guinness World Records' official confirmation, Philstar reported.

Event organisers have yet to get the final count for the eight-hour category. The eight-hour category record is also held by India with 10,450 people who pledged for organ donation in Rohtak on December 1, 2013.
