In the second such instance in the last one week, a wild elephant entered a temple elephant rejuvenation camp at Thekkampatti, about 40 km from here and attacked and injured a pachyderm, forest department sources said today.
Despite strict vigil and protection like solar fence, an elephant from the nearby forest area entered the camp, where there are 33 temple elephants and attacked Kumaran of Thiruchendur Subramanya Temple last evening, they said.
Kumaran sustained minor injuries on its leg and is under treatment, they said.

A week ago, an elephant snapped the solar fence, entered the camp and attacked three pachyderms. Department officials and mahouts managed to drive it away after bursting crackers and hurling stones.
After the incident, five CCTVs were installed inside the camp and four at the forest department office. Authorities also 'fog' the area to prevent wild elephants from coming near the camp, the sources said.
