Maharashtra government should not just announce the package for the hailstorm-hit farmers but ensure its effective implementation too, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP), a local think-tank group, said here today.

RMP conducted a study of areas hit by the unprecedented hailstorms since February-end recently.

"We sent nine volunteer groups to provide a healing touch to the affected farmers and others who have borne the burnt of hailstorm in several parts of the state," Dr Vinay Sahastrabuddhe, Director General, RMP, said.

The volunteers covered 84 villages from 36 tehsils covering 17 districts.

"The state government should not only stop by announcing the package but should also go ahead by implementing it swiftly," Sahastrabuddhe said.

"The state government machinery has become slow due to the election work and hence the delay in providing the relief," he said.
