A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science, Technology, Environment and Forest, headed by Rajya Sabha MP Ashwani Kumar today visited Ludhiana to chalk out a plan for the city's development.

The committee members visited two points along the Budha Nullah behind Ayurvedic College near Haibowal and near Haibowal Dairy Complex.

Ashwani Kumar expressed dismay at the "deplorable" condition of the Budha Nullah flowing through the city.

He said that the committee would try to arrange maximum assistance from the union government for cleaning of the rivulet.

During the visit, the committee members held meetings with members of some NGOs and government officials on matters related to air, water and noise pollution in the city, haphazard urbanisation, solid waste management, sewerage treatment.

The committee also discussed issues related to pollutions, reducing land fertility due to excessive use of fertilisers, housing, sanitation, among others to chalk out a plan for the overall development of Ludhiana.
