In the wake of the Calcutta High Court directing a CBI inquiry into the Sagar Ghosh murder case at Parui in Birbhum district, BJP today demanded resignation of DGP G M P Reddy, accusing him of failing to perform his duty properly.
"We want DGP G M P Reddy to resign as he has failed to perform his duties properly in the Parui murder case. He has worked to save ruling party members," BJP state president Rahul Sinha told reporters here.
In a setback to the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, the Calcutta High Court had yesterday directed CBI to investigate the Parui murder case after holding that the entire probe by state agencies was tainted with extraneous interference.
Justice Harish Tandon directed the Special Investigation Team, headed by the West Bengal DGP, to hand over all material related to the inquiry to CBI.
