An Indian passenger returning from Bahrain was arrested at the Mumbai international airport for allegedly trying to smuggle in 349 gm gold valued at Rs 9.63 lakh, a Customs official said today.
Shaik Abdul Khader, who arrived from Bahrain on a Gulf Air flight on the night between Saturday and Sunday, was intercepted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on suspicion, the official said.
"Shaik had cleverly hidden gold bars in his trouser pocket," the official said, adding, three gold bars together weighing 349 grams worth Rs 9.63 lakh were seized from him.
The accused subsequently admitted to the crime and was placed under arrest, the official said.
