Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has advised the National Test House to review its fee structure to compete in the market.

"The minister, who visited the NTH headquarters at Salt Lake yesterday, said that efforts should be made to cut down the delay in testing," NTH Director-General Bijendra Kumar told PTI.

Kumar also agreed with the minister that the testing fees should be revised so that it could compete with other laboratories, adding "only then business from private parties, government departments and industries will start flowing to NTH".

He said that for some products the fees in the NTH were higher than other laboratories, but in some other products it was lower.

"There is a need to review the fee structure", Kumar said.

He said Paswan reviewed the performance of the NTH.

Kumar said he told the minister about the problems being faced by the NTH including the lack of sample testing by various government organisations.

He also told the minister that that there was lack of proper legislation to benefit the business of the NTH and career prospects of the scientists.

The minister interacted with the scientists in the NTH to explore further improvement of the organisation.

The minister assured that he would look into the problems.
