Seeking more private investment in higher education, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said some of the top universities in the world such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford and MIT were private institutions.

"It is a matter of concern that not a single university in India figures among the top 200 universities in the world. It is in this context that the role of private universities assumes importance," Patnaik said while inaugurating the Xavier University at Nijigarh in Pipili Tahasil of Puri district.

"People look to the new generation of private universities to take up leadership role in terms of academic commitment and raising the standard of higher education," Patnaik said.

Stating that his government was committed to provide quality education to students and make Odisha a hub of higher and technical education in the country, Patnaik said "We are trying to ensure that higher educational facilities benchmarked with global standards are nurtured and fostered in our state. The coming up of the Xavier University is a testimony to this effort.
