A PIL petitioner who moved Madras High Court seeking change of venue of the marriage of PMK founder leader S Ramadoss' granddaughter escaped from imposition of cost as he withdrew his plea after a warning from Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul.

When the petition came up for hearing before the first bench comprising the Chief Justice and Justice M Sathyanarayanan, Justice Kaul asked the counsel for the petitioner whether he would like to withdraw it or else he would pass orders.

Apparently sensing the mood of the court, the counsel for the petitioner said he was withdrawing the petition.

Petitioner Varaagi, a journalist, had submitted that under the guise of the marriage, scheduled today and tomorrow in tourist town of Mahabalipuram, Ramadoss was conducting a festival on the lines of PMK's annual youth festival "Chithirai Thiruvizha" with an eye on future elections.

The Chief Justice observed that there were certain limitations for Political activities and how can Court impose conditions to a private function.

After the counsel agreed to withdraw the petition, the Bench observed that if he had not done so, the court would have imposed a huge cost. It dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
