Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot today condemned the state Home minister's remark on alleged suicide by farmers following damage to crops, and demanded the government to withdraw hike in power tariff, exempt farmers from paying electricity bills and loan instalments for six months.

Pilot said the remark by Home Minister Gulanb Chand Kataria in the Assembly on the issue of suicide by farmers was "unfortunate".

He claimed 34 farmers have died in the state after suffering huge losses due to the untimely rainfall.

Kataria had yesterday said in the Assembly that anyone who hang himself from a tree, shall not be included into the list of dead, caused due to calamity.

"Ped se latakar har marne vale ko is khatein mein dalna theek nahin," Kataria had said.

The PCC Chief said, instead of hurting the sentiments of farmers and the families of those who have either committed suicide or died due to shock, the government should provide compensation as per the actual losses of the farmers.
