Kerala Sports minister A C Moideen today appealed to Opposition Congress led UDF to withdraw its proposed hartal on October 13 as the FIFA Under 17 world cup football matches will commence on that day.
Two matches are scheduled at Kochi on October 13.
Football representatives from abroad, media personnel, sports enthusiasts from across the globe and tourists are expected to visit the state for the matches, the minister said in a statement here.
The hartal would give a wrong picture of Kerala to those visiting to view the matches, he said and appealed to UDF leaders not to call for hartal during match days.
The Congress-led UDF Opposition has called for a 12-hour hartal on October 13 to protest the "anti-people policies" of the Centre and state government.
However the opposition has clarified that the hartal would be only till 3 PM in Ernakulam district in view of the football matches.
