The suspected kingpin of an auto-lifter gang active in NCR was arrested and four stolen motorbikes were seized from him in the Modinagar area here, police said today.
According to sources, Kapil of Moradabad district was involved in several cases of auto theft and was evading arrest for long.
Acting on a tip-off that Kapil, along with an accomplice Vipin, would be in Budana area, police conducted a raid on Thursday night and arrested him and seized four stolen motorbikes.
Vipin, however, managed to escape, a police officer said.
A case has been registered against Kapil at Modinagar police station, the officer said, adding "we are interrogating him about other members of the gang".
