Police attacked while trying to arrest smuggler

As many as 12 accomplices of a smuggler allegedly attacked a police team and managed to get him freed from their custody, police said today.

A team of Narcotic cell of Punjab police yesterday arrested smuggler Baljit Singh after conducting raid at his house in Dolewala village area here where they also seized 20 gm of heroin from his possession.

In the meantime, 12 accomplices of Baljit suddenly showed up at his house and thrashed the police team, ASI Judge Singh said.

They took him away forcibly from the police custody, he said.

A case has been registered against 12 persons, they said adding, raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
