Pakistani police today resorted to baton charge to disperse nurses on a sit-in here demanding that their services be regularised, leading to miscarriage of a woman and injuring three others.

A large number of nurses from different hospitals held a sit-in on the Mall Road demanding that the PML-N government regularise their services.

The police used batons to disperse them as the sit-in caused a massive traffic jam on the Lahore's busiest road.

Four nurses including a pregnant woman were injured in the incident. They were later admitted to Services Hospital.

"The pregnant woman lost her baby but we have saved her life," Director-General Health Dr Zahid Pervez told PTI.

Ten nurses were arrested in connection with the incident.

Nurses of all public sector hospitals have gone on strike, following the incident.

Later, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
