Police intervention sought to get back over Rs70 crore

Police are investigating a complaint about several people allegedly being cheated of several lakhs of rupees by a woman on the pretext of arranging bank loans.

The complaint alleged that the woman hailing from Pudukkotai and running a SHG in Perumanallur in Tirupur, had approached various SHGs and other organisations involved in social welfare claiming that she could get loans of Rs.Five lakh from banks, if they gave her Rs.30,000.

She also told them that they need to pay only Rs.3.5 lakh towards loan. Over 1,000 people from Tirupur, Erode, Salem and Coimbatore paid the money, running into about rs.70 crore, police said.
 

Based on the complaint, Commissioner, A K Vishwanathan ordered to form a specal team and carry out investigation, they said.
