Police rescues minor girl from father's sexual harassment

The child protection unit of the city police which successfully foiled a child marriage recently rescued a teenage girl from the clutches of her father, unit officials said here today.
Senior inspector Madan Ballal who is in-charge of the police child protection unit told PTI that the unit rescued a 14-year-old girl from "sexual harassment" by her father in the Retibunder area of Mumbra in Thane.
The father (40) was arrested on Thursday and charged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and also sections of the POCSO Act 2012, the officer said.

The police said that the victim has been sent to the Bhiwandi remand home.
After a complaint lodged by a non-governmental organisation, the child protection unit headed by Joint Commissioner of Police V V Lakshmi Narayana came into picture and convinced the girl as well as her mother to lodge a police complaint after action was taken.
The police said here today that the accused has been produced in a local court which remanded him to police custody till December 9.
