A Police Sub-Inspector allegedly committed suicide near here apparently due to harassment by his senior, but police claimed he died in accidental discharge of bullet from his revolver.

Suresh Kumar Reddy, attached to Obulavaripalli Police Station near here, shot himself with his service revolver in his house last evening, his family members said.

The 27-year-old took the extreme step as he was being harassed by his senior, Kodur Circle Inspector Ramankanth, they alleged.

Police, however, maintained Reddy was killed in accidental discharge of bullet while cleaning the weapon.

Angry relatives of the Sub-Inspector, who joined the force only last year, staged a demonstration in front of the police station, demanding action against the Circle Inspector. They refused to perform his last rites till justice was done.

They relented when Kurnool DIG Murali Krishna and Kadapa District Collector Sashidar intervened and assured them that action will be initiated action against Ramankanth.

Reddy, who hailed from village Bandi Atmakur in Kurnool district, had tied the knot just two months ago. It is learnt the officer had told his close friends about the Circle Inspector's high handed behaviour.
